Director of Educational Operations- Open
Full-Time
The Director of Educational Operations develops, administers, and oversees our educational department at Challenger Learning Center of Alaska (CLCA). This individual should be passionate about STEM youth education through hands-on, project-based learning.
Just a few of the many essential duties of the ED, are to train and supervise CLCA’s part-time educational staff, develop and monitor educational programs budgets, maintain procedures and policies for programs, and pursue all areas of available funds such as federal, state, and foundation grants for educational programs. Simulated missions, STEM workshops, homeschool programs, summer camps, and virtual programs, are among the many other programs the Educational Director is responsible for.
This position requires an individual who is reliable, enthusiastic, and creative. The Educational Director needs to be able to multi-task, work within short deadlines, be flexible, and pivot under pressure.Â

We are looking for energetic individuals that are passionate about science, technology, engineering, and math and that want to inspire youth! We train all our educators to be Mission Flight Directors and Science Specialists in STEM workshops and simulated space missions for youth k-12!
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates need to be willing to jump right in as strong team members, learning programs, and adapt with us as the needs of our educational community evolve. We provide educational STEM programming year-round. The position is flexible scheduling on an as-needed position, based on program bookings. This is a great position for retired teachers, parents of school-age children, college students, informal educators, and individuals who want to supplement their income with a great career! Teaching experience not required, but encouraged. Prior STEM knowledge not required, as we fully train our educators with our curriculum.
Administrative Assistant- Open
The Receptionist is the first friendly face customers see entering the center. This position is mainly responsible for greeting visitors, answering emails and phone calls, and data entry. The receptionist will be the main point of contact for customers to inquire about and book their educational programs or facility rentals. It is important to have excellent communication skills with customers and staff while coordinating schedules and managing calendars to ensure that activities are properly arranged with no conflicts. Other duties will include taking payments, running the gift shop, filing, organizing, copying, researching, and analyzing data, among other assigned tasks. There is also a possibility of training writing grants and working in QuickBooks.Â

REQUIREMENTS:Â
High school diploma or equivalent, excellent customer service, intermediate to advanced skill level in Microsoft Programs (Word, Excell, Outlook), detail-oriented, adaptable, proactive, and strong verbal and written communication.Â

Facilities Coordinator- closed
This position involves janitorial duties, building maintenance, rental set up and take down, and customer service. Must be able to perform physical labor demands, be responsible, dependable, and have cleaning experience. Call for more information (907)283-2000 and send a resume to Marnie Olcott
QUALIFICATIONS: •Valid Alaska Drivers License •General knowledge of housekeeping, tools, equipment, and supplies •Excellent communication and interpersonal skills •Proven ability to work with a minimum of supervision and be able to prioritize work assignments with minimal guidance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand for long periods, bend, climb and lift. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift 70 lbs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: •Clean, sweep, dust, mop, wash, vacuum, polish, and wax floors •Cleans windows, woodwork, furniture, and equipment •Cleans bathroom facilities and keeps restrooms supplied with towels, soap, and other items •Collects and disposes of trash from building and grounds •Clean kitchen facilities •Performs unskilled maintenance work •Performs outside work such as snow removal and lawn maintenance •Moves furniture and equipment •Ability to perform physical labor such as moving furniture and equipment, lifting, climbing ladders, etc •Ability to follow instructions concerning various materials •Teamwork, Works cooperatively with instructors, students, and visitors.
Diving Instructors- Open
Divers operate within Challenger’s safety training department, facilitating CSET, HUET, and outdoor survival training on a commercial, recreational, and youth level. All inquiries must send a resume to Greg Olcott.

Challenger Learning Center of Alaska’s (CLCA) Board is currently accepting applications. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to be an active member of the community. We are seeking individuals who are passionate and dedicated to serving on our volunteer Board of Directors, who share CLCA’s main mission, “To inspire students to look beyond the ordinary, imagine the unattainable and answer those seemingly impossible questions through the pursuit of higher education in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). All ages are encouraged, and those with experience in nonprofits, finance, community outreach, and education. Challenger Learning Center of Alaska Board members are responsible for, but not limited to, attending and participating in board meetings once a month, to advocate for the organization, maintain and oversee focus on the mission and implementation of strategic direction in support of the organization, and establish policies for how resources will be delegated to safeguard organizational values, function, and sustainability.
