Fixed Wing Ditching

Survival Skills for Cold Water Plane Emergencies

Flying over Alaska's vast landscapes and waterways poses unique challenges, especially in emergency situations. The Fixed Wing Ditching course is specifically designed for pilots, crew members, and passengers of fixed-wing aircraft. This training provides essential skills and knowledge necessary for safely abandoning a ditched airplane and successfully egressing from an inverted aircraft in cold water conditions.

Key Features

Flexible Training Location

This course can be provided on location in a water environment or at our facility at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska in Kenai, Alaska.

Emergency Preparedness

Learn comprehensive emergency procedures tailored for fixed-wing aircraft, including pre-ditching preparations and immediate actions after water impact.

Egress Techniques

Gain practical skills in escaping from an aircraft underwater, with a focus on techniques for egressing from an inverted position. This part of the training uses simulated environments to provide realistic practice scenarios.

Survival Strategies

Understand survival strategies for cold-water environments following egress, including the use of life rafts, emergency signaling devices, and techniques for reducing hypothermia risk.

Hands-On Simulation

Experience realistic ditching simulations in controlled environments that replicate the challenges faced in actual emergencies. These exercises are designed to build confidence and ensure you can apply learned skills under pressure.

Course Benefits

Traveling by fixed-wing aircraft in Alaska requires preparation for all scenarios, including potential water emergencies. This course is crucial for anyone who flies in cold-water regions, providing lifesaving skills that enhance the safety of all aboard. Whether you are a pilot, part of the crew, or a frequent passenger, the Fixed Wing Ditching course prepares you to handle unexpected water landings with competence and calm.
